Leil storage solutions feature greater storage capacity and lower energy consumption and cost per terabyte by utilizing state-of-the-art HDDs custom built by Western Digital. These drives harness Host-Managed Shingled Magnetic Recording (HM-SMR) technology, once used only by hyperscalers, to increase areal density and trim energy consumption by 18 percent. They also utilize Power Disable management to disconnect electricity from the drives, thereby decreasing power draw by 25 percent and creating an eco-friendly storage system that enhances energy efficiency.

Leil Storage clusters start from the 45U rack, providing up to 18 petabytes of usable capacity. All key components are redundant, ensuring resiliency against multiple failures with N+2 protection.

A critical component of Leil storage solutions is SaunaFS, a distributed file system that was inspired by the pioneering concepts of the Google File System. SaunaFS is engineered to offer unmatched efficiency, security, and redundancy. The file system lessens the need for compute resources for Erasure Coding (EC) compared to conventional configurations, ensuring data protection and redundancy while lowering demand for compute power. SaunaFS features unlimited scalability, instant copy-on-write snapshots for the immutability and integrity of data, and Reed-Solomon erasure coding and other functionality for robust redundancy and rapid failure detection and correction. Even the largest data sets remain uncorrupted and secure. SaunaFS supports S3 as well as leading backup solutions from such vendors as Acronis, Veeam, Cohesity, Rubrik, and Veritas.
